It is my civic duty to check up on my patients. Or, in this case, my bros.
(ig this is happening now)
Thought I'd run smth by you, since you're into magic and stuff and you might be interested. It's not really an exchange so much as a, "pls do this and I'll make you more runes in the future, but I'd do that regardless so I really have no plan here," kinda thing.
See I'm making this potion for Stiles meant to chill him out. And I need people (other than me) to try it.
I'd have offered to pay you. But, yes, I recognize that you're generous in that. Considering I had actually meant to soon contact you about another rune, your timing is fortuitous.
[ ah — that name does ring a bell. ]
Stiles. I do remember him trying to vault himself onto my back. [...] What is he?
You should consider saying that aloud to ppl, esp since Stiles works somewhere called "Worse Dragon". Best not to look up what they have for sale if you know what's best for you.
Anyway, he's got
(how to be a bro about this and not go overboard on the explanation...)
difficulty focusing sometimes. His mind's so sharp it runs a mile a minute!!
So I'm making him potions which'll totally help, I just can't keep testing them on myself. I'm suffering major burnout and getting outta bed in the morning's hard enough as it is, you feel me? LOL. I thought you'd be interested in helping out, since you're all about the magic stuff. I might even be able to market it, or smth.
[ ... that almost got a laugh out of him; he does appreciate jonas' sense of humor. ]
"So sharp it runs a mile of minute." Sounds as if that could apply to my daughter, too.
I will help you. I asked what he is because it'd be a curious phenomenon, but not unheard of, if this mystery potion of your should affect Witches, or types of Monsters, differently.
You have a daughter? It's just her and Soren, right?
(very curious about a daughter being raised by this man, thinking if viren's praising her for her apparent intelligence then she's less like soren and more of bookish girl.)
And I appreciate that. Stiles is an Arachne, so maybe it is that dividing his focus. Spiders are pretty skittish by nature, right? Lol
It's cool if you come over here, I've got all the supplies set up in the basement. Which sounds creepier than it is, bc I got fairy lights to put down there and it's super cozy now. I'll attach our cottage's address!
(and so he does, located off the main stretch of the haven's residential area.)
Claudia and Soren, yes. [... he's unsure if he's discussed soren with jonas, actually. not that viren's aware of it, but he hardly discusses soren by name with others. he'd be curious as to what his son's mentioned, but then, apparently it wasn't enough for jonas to steer clear of his way. ] I'm not sure if I would wish for her to be here.
I don't blame you. There are a ton of creeps here, but worse are assholes like the Rathmores and ppl like that. It's p dangerous.ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Cool, though, I'll see you soon!
(their cottage has a front yard beyond its cute little wrought iron fence, and that's where jonas is perched like an old man in a swing chair that's so broken from the last people living there that it forces its occupant to spin in lazy revolutions.
thankfully, the witch enjoys it. because he's not the brightest bulb.
when he spots viren sweeping up their lane:) Welcome to our humble abode!
[ after stepping through the iron fence, carefully clicking it shut behind him again, viren offers a very short bow of greeting. he doesn't appear to have anything on his person, beyond being dressed in some smart coat.
his eyes sweep over the cottage. it's neither an unpopular nor underappreciated style, here. ]
Thank you. [..] I assume it's a look you enjoy.
[ —the humbleness, that is, with a little inch of his eyebrow upward at the swing chair. but, as his tone lacks any scorn to it, it's likely he doesn't intend the comment as terribly demeaning - it's cute. ]
Are your [ hrm, he did say "our," ] roommates here?
It is. I'm not very fancy, so this is just the right size. C'mon in.
(thankfully no one's told him about parliament kicking all of those people out of their homes. he just thought they'd been up and abandoned naturally, or from the threat of the disease.
jonas hops out of the chair with a dignified wobble, heading up the steps with a shove into the cottage's living room.) Stiles is out, so it's just us. He's my only roommate, but Sasuke stops by a lot to visit. Mostly to cook for us? I think it's just something he likes to do. (now that he's a vampire and can't rely on his own food for sustenance, but he's aware he's digressing.)
I'll bring the potion upstairs, unless you wanna' check out my sweet setup.
...
Or critique it, as I'd totally defer to your expertise.
[ viren can't reflect too deeply on the mystery of why sasuke stops by to cook - so while he barely knows the boy, his thoughts do briefly divert as to why he, himself, would cook for someone: just because he cares. ]
[ that feels much beyond what's appropriate to speculate upon aloud, however, so viren's quiet. ]
(leading him in, the stairs lead down from the entrance of the kitchen, a hand up to catch the cord to encourage the light to flicker on. a jaunty few steps down into the cellar and it does seem to be how jonas described it.
with exposed brick and wood, a soft light from his decidedly confusing alchemy setup—it only makes sense to him in the order it's in, but could use some smarter reorganizing—and string lights it looks comfortable. not dim and haunting, which was the antithesis of what he and his roommate wanted.)
It's like our little man-cave. We're gonna' get a bunch of chairs down here. I wish they had beanbags—these, like, sacks filled with micro-beads you sit on and sink into—but I'm satisfied with a soft enough couch.
—here's the stuff. I actually got the weed from you guys, so it's pretty strong.
[ admittedly, he expected something different while descending the stairs. less a -- man cave, more something intended for cold practicality. this cellar may as well had been designed, also, as an antithesis' to his own dungeon at home. it's welcoming, friendly, warm. a bit like jonas himself, viren would reflect.
he lets his gaze linger over the alchemy (his always favorite of this world's magic, if perhaps only due to familiarity) setup; even if appearing disorganized, he makes note of its various components.
it's only when jonas mentions an apparent key ingredient that viren rips his sight from it. ]
(oh, was that the last straw? jonas balks back at him a little, surprised at the reaction but not altogether ready to give up on him. they're going to test these potions out in the safety of his basement—what could possibly go wrong (this time)?)
Y-Yeah, uh, I mean, it's all I could think of that'd counteract some of his hyperactivity. Chilling him out and calming him down? (a step closer to the setup, lifting his alembic with a sniff at the contents.) Weed sounded perfect for that.
Even if it's a bit skunk-y. Some people like the smell, though.
[ the stare the viren levels at jonas isn't what one call - impressed, exactly. it's a long look, the dragon's tail flicking behind him, with a thump against the floor, as the resulting silence that stretches. ]
[ indeed, he's glad he asked if jonas should have other company home. ]
... Perhaps. [ he begins, all too cautiously. ] And perhaps you'll find that many adjustments will be, [ mm. pause, ] very much needed. That is the point to our little endeavor, isn't it?
[ ... so. not the last straw, after all. he nods to the alembic. ]
Did you have portions already guessed at, or are we just meant to take a swig from that? If you don't, I would think we should at least measure something out.
